JNANE YLANE: MOROCCO’S FIRST TRULY GREEN DEVELOPMENT
These days words like ‘green’ and ‘sustainable’ have been hijacked by developers. A golf course may appear green but it is a highly irresponsible waste of resources - especially in a country where many people lack access to safe drinking water. Many so-called ‘riad’ developments are built with concrete - one of the main sources of carbon emissions. For us, sustainability is not a developer’s mantra. It is at the heart of Jnane Ylane.
A concept with a difference
60 hectares of land returned to its original use – farming.
Minimal footprint
95% of the land will be devoted to fields. Just 5% will be buildings.
Low-impact architecture
The buildings of Jnane Ylane will be integrated into the landscape through the use of sustainable construction techniques and traditional village structures.
- Thick internal wood walls provide efficient insulation
- Zero use of concrete
- Natural heating and cooling
